THE ASSOCIATION OF BLACK WOMEN PHYSICIANS - CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF SERVICE

Letitia Bridges, M.D., M.B.A. - New 2009-2010 Executive Board President

It is with great humility that I accept the honor of the Presidency of the Association of Black Women Physicians. It is truly a privilege to serve a community of distinguished professionals.

For over twenty six years, the Association of Black Women Physicians has served as a valuable resource to African American physicians and physicians in training, as well as to the underserved community. The Association consistently promotes mentorship, philanthropy and community service. 2008 was a year of distinction for ABWP. Under the direction of our immediate past president, Dr. LaTanya Hines and our Executive Director, Mrs. Sandra Bankhead, the Association initiated a community based health and wellness series and a national recruitment campaign. It is my intent to build on the platform of their success.

The unprecedented developments in the financial markets and the subsequent economic downturn present challenges that affect institutions, businesses and every member of our organization. Our 2009 Executive Board is prepared to meet the challenges ahead with our profession’s inherent purpose, position and power. This year will witness a new financial and operational structure, a re-engineered fundraising platform, and expanded membership - and member involvement - on the local and national front. I look forward to this year of change with tremendous excitement. I urge you to continue your advocacy; and I anticipate your continued support and involvement.
