Sister to Sister

Association of Black Women Physicians
Sister-to-Sister Mentorship Program

Guiding Principles

The Association of Black Women Physicians is dedicated to the development of future physicians and healthcare leaders.  Medical students or residents are invited to pair with a mentor/physician in an area of their interests.

Formal and informal mentorship activities are held throughout the year to offer guidance to medical students and residents.  Through the committed efforts of members, mentees will receive support in regard to their pursuit of their professional goals and aspirations.  The physician partner in this process is committed to being available for their mentee in a guidance capacity.

In the process of involvement in this program, the following will occur:

  • Mentees will be given a needs assessment upon entry

  • Student will be encouraged to precept in her mentor’s office

  • There will be a minimum of four contact hours monthly

  • Mentees will receive invaluable information from medical lectures; financial seminars; and social exchanges with the ABWP and invited to events free of charge

  • Student members will be sponsored to attend our Medical Conference and Strategic Planning Retreat

  • Students will participate in a quarterly feedback process offering a method for revisions and updates on program and individual modifications
