October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, So Let's Talk Symptoms with Dr. Sarah Jam
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so let’s talk signs and symptoms.
In its early stages, breast cancer can be completely asymptomatic or commonly show up with a new breast lump. There are a few less common symptoms that you should be aware of:
🎀Sudden, asymmetrical breast size change (one side larger/smaller).
🎀Warm, red, or swollen skin on the breast (possible sign of inflammatory breast cancer).
🎀Inverted nipple or change in nipple shape.
🎀Persistent itchiness in the breast or nipple area.
🎀Dimpled or orange-peel-like skin texture.
🎀Red or purple blotches that don’t go away.
Breast changes can happen either quickly or over time. The important thing to remember is not to panic or delay—schedule a visit with a healthcare provider to get an accurate, early diagnosis.
Even though these changes might have a different cause, early detection and treatment give you the best chance for a positive outcome if breast cancer is diagnosed.
